Bearings • Bushings

A common type of plain bearing, a bushing is typically inserted into a housing to provide a bearing surface for rotary applications. Industrial-style bushings are common within oil field applications, and manufacturing and metal fabricating operations. Bushings are also used in computer, consumer electronics, aerospace, and medical applications. Common bushing designs include solid, (sleeve and flanged), split, and clenched. Solid sleeved bushings are a solid all the way around, while split bushings have a cut along the length of the bushing. Clenched bearings are similar to split bushings, but feature a clench between the halves. Flanged bushings are a sleeve bushing with a flange extending radially outward. Linear bushings are secured with two retaining rings and not pressed into a housing.

  • RPM Mechanical, Inc.

RPM Mechanical manufactures center-bonded bushings and square-bonded bushings for applications that require shock absorption, attenuation of noise, reduction of wear, and elimination of lubrication. Depending on model and type, the company's bushings feature a maximum radial static load rating of 300 lbs to 8200 lbs.

  • Graphite Metallizing Corp. - GRAPHALLOY

GRAPHALLOY® bushings are self-lubricating, operate in temperature extremes (from -400°F to +1000°F/-240°C to 535°C) and thrive in harsh environments where standard bushings might fail. It is a self-lubricating graphite/metal alloy that offers high performance in many mechanical and electrical applications. Available in over 100 grades with specific properties that meet a wide range of engineering solutions and specifications.

  • Potter Associates

Potter Associates custom manufactures bushings and other products from plastics, rubber, stainless steel, and other materials.

  • QBC - Quality Bearings

Quality Bearings & Components (QBC) distributes Thomson products, including Thomson's Super Smart, Super, and Precision Steel Ball Bushing Bearings in both open and closed types. These products offer a coefficient of friction as low as 0.001. In addition, the Super Smart Ball Bushing carries up to 6x the load capacity, or 216x the travel life, of conventional linear bearings. QBC also carries sintered bronze sleeve bearings in five different series: small, standard, ultraprecision, plastic, and Frelon-lined.

  • Thomson

Thomson offers nine different families of linear bearings and bearing accessories, including Super Ball Bushings, Super Smart Ball Bushings, Precision Steel Ball Bushings, MultiTrac Ball Bushings, and XR Extra Rigid Bearings. The Super Ball Bushing provides 3x the load capacity, or 27x the travel life, of conventional linear bearings due to a wear-resistant, polymer retainer. The Super Smart Ball Bushing is universally self-aligning and offers 2x the load capacity, or 8x the travel life, of the Super Ball Bushing. Of the other bushings, the Precision Steel can self-align up to 3 degrees in all directions, the MultiTrac reduces deflection and eliminates binding and chatter, and the XR Extra Rigid is designed to maximize load carrying capacity while minimizing deflection.
