A commonly used type of mounted unit, pillow block bearings are designed to provide shaft support where the mounting surface is parallel to the shaft axis.Typically self-lubricating and made of cast iron or pressed steel, pillow block bearings are widely used in conveyor systems, such a tube chain conveyors. These bearings are available as light duty, standard duty, and heavy-duty types. Light-duty pillow block bearings feature a narrow inner ring and two set screws; while standard types feature a wide inner ring and two set screws. The heavy-duty types feature a wide inner ring and four set screws.

Types available include solid-rigid, pressed steel housing self-aligning heavy gauge, pressed steel housing self-aligning standard, and die cast housing rigid. Flange mount ball pillow blocks are also available.
Timken spherical pillow blocks combine cast iron or cast steel housings with high capacity spherical roller bearings for heavy duty operation. Their split housing design simplifies assembly and service. Each contains a spherical roller bearing with improved geometry and raceway finish for maximum load capacity.
