Self-aligning ball bearings are constructed with an inner ring and ball assembly within an outer ring that features a spherical raceway. This construction allows the bearing to tolerate small angular misalignments and shaft deflections. Self-aligning ball bearings are known for having the lowest friction of all rolling bearings, which enables them to run cooler at high speeds. Self-aligning bearings are available in single-acting, double-acting, self-aligning, combination, and cross roller types; and feature clamshell, cushion, flange, hanger, pedestal, rod end, pillow block, and spherical mounting styles. These bearings are typically used for light to medium-duty power transmission problems on equipment found in the aircraft, construction, agriculture, machine tool industries.
