Material handling machines can be used for various automation tasks including feeding, packaging, lifting, sorting, drying and more.

Used for moving and storing material within an industrial facility, material handling equipment can be classified into five major categories: transport equipment, positioning equipment, unit load formation equipment, storage equipment, and identification and control equipment. Examples of material handling equipment used within factory automation applications include: conveyors, monorails, cranes, feeders, palletizers, automated storage retrieval systems, and automated guided vehicles.
