HVAC • Humidifiers, Dehumidifiers

A humidifier is a device that can increase the humidity in either a single room or an entire building. Dehumidifiers serve the opposite purpose.

A humidifier is a household appliance that increases moisture in a room or home. This usually takes place by way of evaporation, wherein a fan blows onto a wet filter (i.e., a wick) in order to introduce moisture into the air. Other operating principles include vaporizers that boil water to release steam, impellers that diffuse water, and ultrasonic humidifiers that use a vibrating diaphragm to create a cool fog.A dehumidifier reduces the moisture in the air. Mechanical/refrigerative dehumidifiers are the most common, and work by drawing moist air over a refrigerated coil to condense water in the air and collect it in a bucket. Electronic dehumidifiers use peltier heat pumps that create cool surfaces on which water condenses. Air conditioners also naturally act as dehumidifiers.Leading manufacturers: Vicks, Honeywell, Holms, Bionaire, Hunter, Panasonic, Sanyo, EdgeStar, Mitsubishi, Whrilpool, Danby, Sunpentown, Eva Dry, Soleus and Pingi.
