Motion Control • Ball & Lead Screws

Ball screws are mechanical devices that translate rotational motion to linear motion while maintaining a low level of friction.

A ball screw transforms rotary motion to linear motion with little friction, while a lead screw translates radial motion into liner motion. Ball screws are found in machine tools, robots, and precision assembly equipment, with high precision ball screws used in steppers. There are three common types of lead screws: square thread, acme thread and buttress thread. Common applications for lead screws include machine slides, vises, presses and jacks.
