Motors • Brushless Motors

A type of synchronous electric motor, a brushless DC motor is powered by direct-current electricity and features an electronic commutation system, rather than a mechanical commutator with brushes. The brushless motors offer a number of advantages over brushed DC motors including higher efficiency, reliability and a longer lifetime. The brushless motors also produce less noise and more power, while reducing electromagnetic interference. The most popular motor choice for model aircrafts, brushless DC motors are utilized in a variety of applications. Computer hard drives, CD/DVD players, and PC cooling fans all use brushless DC motors. Higher power brushless motors are found in electric vehicles, hybrids and industrial machinery. Two subtypes of brushless DC motors exist: the stepper motor and the reluctance motor. The stepper motor is classified as having more poles on the fixed permanent magnet (stator), while the reluctance motor features salient poles that are pulled into alignment via a timed stator drive. A brushless AC electric motor is similar to a brushless DC motor, as the magnetic field of the rotor is supplied by permanent magnets. However the stator windings of the brushless DC motor are salient field coils.

    Bodine Electric Co. offers industrial brushless DC Motors from 1/16 to 3/8 HP; torque to 151 oz-in. and speeds from 60 to 10000 RPM. Parallel Shaft BLDC range from 1/16 to 1/11 to 1/4 HP. Their line of right angel gearmotors have 1/16, 1/8, 1/5, 1/4 and 3/8 HP, with 11 to 37 lb-in of torque, or 18.6 to 109 lb-in, or 95 to 147 lb inches. These BLDC motors rangesfrom  .7 to 500 RPM.

    Trust Automation provides brushless servo motors with low inertia and medium inertia. The SE600 series and SE700 series of brushless servo AC motors with low inertia and medium inertia feature 2000 line differential encoders and signals, Hall sensors and signals, low torque ripple, oil sealing and brake and tachometer options.

    Control Techniques supplies high performance industrial brushless AC servo motors or their Unimotor fm (flexible motor).     Johnson Electric supplies brushless DC motors by Johnson motors in 9 varieties. The E4EHS-12 is a BLDC motor with nominal 12 VDC, 40 g in weight and 10 poles suited for heating ventilation and air conditioning applications. The E6EHS-12 is a BLDC motor with nominal 12 VDC, 80g in weight and 10 poles suited for fan, blower and ventilation unit, air flap and heating control device applications. The E7IHM-24 is a BLDC motor with nominal 24 VDC, 210g in weight and 4 poles suited for fan, printer, bath fan and convection fan applications.
