Power Transmission • Gearheads & Gearboxes

Use a rotating power source to another device using gear rations. When transmission have multiple gear rations, the gearbox switches the gears.

A gearbox is a simple type of transmission that uses gear ratios to convert speed and torque from a rotating power source to another device. Typically, gearboxes are either manual-transmission, wherein the operator engages the clutch and selects the appropriate gear, or automatic-transmission, in which the transmission automatically selects the gear. The most common use of gearboxes is in motor vehicles where the transmission adapts the output of the engine to the drive wheels, reducing the higher engine speeds to the slower wheel speeds and increasing torque in the process. Gearboxes are also found in pedal bicycles, wind turbines, and various agricultural, industrial, construction and mining equipment.Leading manufacturers: DieQua Corporation, Maxmar Controls, Wittenstein Ltd., Apex Dynamics, MIJNO
