Power Transmission • Speed Reducers

Speed reducers are mehcanisms designed to reduce the speed of an input shft by a certain ratio.

A speed reducer, also known as a cycloidal drive, reduces the speed of an input shaft by a specific ratio. It works by eccentrically mounting the input shaft to a ball bearing that is attached to a cycloidal disc, causing the disc to move in a circle around a ring gear in a direction opposite that of the input shaft. The result is speed reduction. When selecting a speed reducer, the three most important considerations are durability, thermal horsepower rating (i.e., its ability to dissipate generated heat), and the strength of the initial reducer connected to the motor or transmission. Leading manufacturers: Sumitomo, Toledo Gear,, Heco Gear and Onvio LLC.
