Pumps • Centrifugal Pumps • Submersible Centrifugal Pumps

A submersible centrifugal pump is a turbine pump that uses an enclosed rotating impeller to increase the pressure of a fluid, even when the unit itself is surrounded by water or other liquid. The pump is positioned above the motor, and water enters the pump through a screen located between the two components. These pumps are generally used to transfer dirty water, slurries, and other liquids, as well as small suspended solids. Submersible motors are smaller in diameter and much longer than ordinary motors, resulting in lower efficiency. They can either be dry, which means that the motor is hermetically-sealed with a high dielectric oil that excludes water from the motor; or wet, which means the rotor and bearings actually operate in water. Most submersible pumps, especially those used for irrigation, need three-phase electrical power. Leading manufacturers: CAT, Little Giant, Goulds, J&J, Honda Power Equipment, Weir
