Pumps • Submersible Pumps • Submersible Sump Pumps

Submersible sump pumps are electric machines that are installed into the ground and designed to function underwater. Each pump features a sealed, oil-cooled motor and a float-activated switch that turns on the pump when water reaches a certain level. A check valve on the water outlet pipe prevents water from running back into the sump when it shuts off. Raw materials for parts vary from corrosion-free cast bronze, alloy, stainless steel, and epoxy-coated cast-iron, to polypropylene and other plastics. In terms of operation, submersibles operate underwater, and therefore, cannot be seen or heard. Due to these conditions, however, they also have somewhat short lifespans, ranging from 5 to 15 years. Typical power ratings span from 1/6 to 1/2 horsepower. Leading manufacturers: Wayne, Flotec, Zoeller, Little Giant, Ridgid
