A submersible well pump is a long cylindrical device that fits inside a well’s casing in order to access deep wells and provide water to a home or other habitation. Its bottom half is comprised of a sealed pump motor connected to an above-ground power source, while the pump itself includes a series of impellers separated by a diffuser. While jet pumps can go several hundred feet deep to lift water, well pumps are more effective because they push the water up. With an expected lifespan of 20 to 25 years of reliable, service-free performance, they are especially valuable to people living in rural areas, when city water may not be available. Leading manufacturers: Goulds, Grundfos Solar, Franklin, Pedrollo, Myers
