A pressure switch is a type of switch that makes electrical contact when a certain preset pressure has been reached on its input. The switch may be designed to make contact either on pressure rise or on pressure fall.There are two types of pressure switches: pneumatic and hydraulic.Uses of pneumatic pressure switches include switching off an electrically-driven gas compressor when a set pressure is achieved in a reservoir; and switching off a gas compressor when there is no feed in the suction stage.Hydraulic pressure switches are used within automobile applications, such as switching on a warning light if engine oil pressure falls below a certain level. These switches also turn brake lights on automatically by detecting a rise in pressure within hydraulic brake pipes.

The Class 9012 Square D switches are used in pneumatic or hydraulic systems to protect equipment and control/monitor system pressure. The Class 9013 Square D switches are used to control electrically-driven water pumps and air compressors. Depending on type and model the Square D switches feature a pressure range of 0 to 9000 psi. The OsiSense electronic pressure switches control/regulate pressure in fluid, water, hydraulic or pneumatic systems from -14.5 psi to 8,700 psi. These switches are protected against overpressure, short circuits, and reverse polarity. They also feature a self-diagnostic function.

    Tecmark designs and manufactures three series of pressure switches. The 3000 Series features pressure ranges from 2" WC to 100 psi, and is used to interlock devices to sense air, gas or water pressure at a specific point. The 3900 Series- used in pilot duty applications - features pressure ranges as low as 6" WC up to 5 psi. This series of switches are available in plated steel, stainless steel or injection molded plastic materials. The 4000 Series converts a pressure signal to an electrical output, and features pressure ranges from 2" WC up to 11 psi.

The diaphragm pressure switches are available as single, dual and triple setting units, with pressure up to 150 psi. The dia-seal piston pressure switches feature pressures up to 1600 psi, while the sealed piston pressure switches are for use in rugged hydraulic applications. The bourdon tube pressure switches can work at pressures up to 6000 psig.
