Switches • Speed Switches

Speed switches indicate and control the rotary motion of equipment, and are ideal for detecting unwanted slowdowns and stoppages of process equipment. These switches are used in variety industrial applications including: conveyors, blowers, motors, drums, rotary feeders, bucket elevators, fans, airlocks, screening machines, crushers, dryers, burners, and rotary kilns. The operating range of industrial speed switches is typically between 0.1 and 2,000 RPM. Speed switches are shaft or pulse driven, and can be electro mechanical - needing no electrical input – or electronic.

  • Electro-Sensors, Inc.

Electro Sensors offers single relay output, dual relay output, ASi Network output speed switches. There are over a half dozen models of single relay output speed switches to choose from. Electro Sensors also offers speed sensors.

  • BWI Eagle, Inc.

BWI Eagle manufactures speed switches and monitors of all types. The Eagle Tac Switch monitors speed and detects motion in all types of machinery. The Eagle Optima is a series of intrinsically safe critical speed switches.

  • Hubbell Industrial

Hubbell Industrial Controls manufactures six different models of speed switches that detect motion or sense overspeed or underspeed occurrences of industrial machinery or motors. Zero, slow and high speed switches come in either direct coupled or non-contact types. Many speed switches are available with NEMA 3, 4, 7, 9, 10 or 13 construction.

  • Mod-Tronic Instruments Limited

Mod-Tronic is a Canadian based distributor of slow and high speed switches from Dynalco Controls. The SW-100 speed switch has a single setpoint for overspeed and underspeed protection, and is DIN rail mountable. The SWT-1000 and SWTD-1000 have a single relay setpoint for over speed protection and 4-20mA isolated output. The SWT-2000 two channel speed switch/transmitter acts as two speed switches in one as it can protect two separate machines at once. Four other models are available as well.

  • Torq Corp.

Torq manufactures electronic, zero and mechanical speed switches. All of Torq's speed switches are used to monitor belt conveyors, screw conveyors, bucket elevators, rotary feeder shafts, rotating drums and other types of rotating machinery.

  • MaxiGard

Maxigard (Process Control Systems) is a manufacturer of speed switches. Their adjustable models come in single set point and dual set point configurations, and are typically used to detect slowing of the fan shafts caused by drive belt slipping. Maxigard's slow speed switch is designed to monitor slow moving conveyor belts used in dryers or ovens.

  • Control Concepts Inc

Control Concepts supplies a variety of speed switches, including electro mechanical, zero speed, explosion proof and proximity types. Their electro mechanical modle is a direct couple speed indicating switch that opens and closes as a function of the rotational speed of the switch shaft.

  • Mid-State Instruments

Mid-State Instruments is a distributor of Electro-Sensors speed switches for speed monitoring, vibration sensing and motor control speeds. The SS-110 is a slow speed switch with one adjustable set point. The SCP1000 is a presettable machine speed switch that provides one individually adjustable relay set point. The FB420 is a stand alone shaft speed switch.

  • Access Control Sales

Access Control Sales is a distributor of socket mounted, NEMA enclosed and hazardous location - zero, low, high and standard speed - speed switches from BWI Eagle. Socket mounted speed switches come with a DIN rail option. NEMA enclosed speed switches offer single, dual or triple channel formats. Speed monitors are available to monitor proportional speed drives. Overspeed monitors are also offered.

  • Jayashree Electron

Jayashree Electron manufactures eight different series' of electronic speed switches. Their RME21 is a light duty model with a hybrid circuit. The Series RME26 is also for light duty applications but is built with Micro-controller technology. The Series RMC21 is housed in a weatherproof IP-65 industrial polymer enclosure. The RMP6 is housed in a IP-30 DIN rail plastic enclosure for indoor and outdoor use.The Series RMP21-FP is enclosed in a flameproof housing as per IS-2148.

  • Process Automation Corp.

PA manufactures the Model SS-500 digital speed switch. This conveyor speed sensor may be used to provide 4-20 mA proportional to conveyor speed or relay output for belt under/over-speed (field programmable). The SS-500 speed switch features ease of set-up, will accommodate all belt speed ranges, and can detect small speed changes. An optional tachometer drive assembly is available.

  • Schulze Manufacturing

Schulze Manufacturing offers heavy-duty speed switches used on engines, buses, pumps, generator sets, process control, conveyors, off-highway and construction equipment. Features include high inductive load ratings of 15 amps at 6-14 volts DC and 10 amp at 24-30 volts DC. Its AC rating is 15 amps at 110/220 volts AC. These slow, high or standard speed switches offer weatherproof construction.

  • Avtron Manufacturing, Inc.

Avtron offers combinations of Avtron encoders and overspeed switches from Hubble, Leviton, and others. These overspeed combinations are engineered for applications in crane, hoist, mines, and other safety situations. Units provide overspeed protection and speed feedback from one assembly.

  • Rockwell Automation

Allen-Bradley (Rockwell Automation) provides condition sensing switches and controls required for rotating machinery. These switches provide an electrical contact signal at a determined speed. Features include speed settings from 15 to 1000 rpm, shaft speeds up to 2000 rpm, and a double-shaft seal.
